Networking is one of the most important aspects of a real estate agent’s career.

In real estate, a lot of success stems from who you know and who knows you. It’s not only about people being aware of your services because of an advertisement. It’s also about them understanding what you bring to the table and what helps you stand out from the crowd.

Let’s say you have a few listings and, therefore, a few clients. Each listing represents an opportunity to leave a lasting impression on those clients.

An important part of networking is following up. People know who you are and maybe know someone who has done business with you in the past. But you still have to continue nurturing relationships to help take your career to the next level.

You want clients to stay on clients’ minds long after you sell or find them a home. The way that happens is by showing them they’re more than dollar signs to you; it’s by showing them you truly care about them as people and value the relationship.

In the spirit of Valentine’s Day, here are a few ways you can take advantage of the clients you already have:

Gift Baskets

Holidays are a wonderful thing. Granted, Valentine’s Day might be considered by many to be a “Hallmark Holiday,” but plenty of people celebrate it. It doesn’t take much effort to put together a gift basket. If you are on a budget, you can even go to your local dollar store and find some decent baskets and fillers.

What makes a good gift basket?

First, you need something to put items in. It doesn’t have to be a basket, but it does have to look nice.

It also must be pleasing to the eye and nicely arranged. Make sure to include a wide array of goody bag-like favors, such as candy, food, a small calendar, notepads, magnets, etc.

A handwritten note is also nice and personalizes the gift even more.

If you give a basket, you can also find clear, colored wrapping paper and wrap it with ribbon if you are feeling particularly fancy.

A Small Token of Appreciation

Sticking with our Valentine’s Day example, a box of chocolates or another sweet treat are both great at showing you are thinking about someone.

If you go out of your way to make someone else feel special, it goes a long way. It shows you care enough to think about them and took time out of your day to deliver a personalized gift.

Do you want long-lasting clients and referrals? Then do a few extra things for them that aren’t expected.

Write It Down

A handwritten note can be very meaningful, especially in our smartphone world, so buy a variety pack of blank cards with envelopes that can last a long time, be used for different occasions, and still leave a special touch.

What do these suggestions boil down to? Making your clients feel important!

This essentially means doing something of value for them that they’ll remember. Something meaningful that will stick with them long after the paperwork is signed and, hopefully, down the line when they or their friends are looking for a new home.
