About the Graph
The ShowingIndex is a trend statistic ShowingTime compiles from more than 40 large companies that use ShowingAlert, a tool for capturing showing appointments on their company web sites. Each month, more than 5,000 showing appointments are requested online through ShowingAlert.

The percentage change from one month to the next (shown in gray) is referenced to May 2001, the starting month for this statistic. For example, in March 2004, the ShowingIndex is 144%, which means that, on average, ShowingTime clients received 144% more showing requests in March 2004 than they did in May 2001.

The growth of actual home sales as reported by the National Association of REALTORS® is shown in black. We have calculated the percentage change in reported home sales using the same approach as the calculations for the ShowingIndex. Historic correlation between the ShowingIndex and actual home sales indicates that the ShowingIndex may be a good leading indicator of changes in actual home sales.
